Oman’s Industry Day, held on February 9, 2025, highlights the country’s industrial growth and future plans. Organized by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), this year’s theme, “Oman at the Heart of Global Supply Chains,” reflects the nation’s role in global trade and manufacturing. The event brought together government officials, business leaders, and industry experts to discuss Oman’s progress in economic diversification and industrial development.

Notably, Oman’s manufacturing sector grew by 8.5% in 2024, reaching RO2.686 billion. The government also announced 100 new industrial projects worth RO1.5 billion, spanning key sectors such as renewable energy, medical and food industries, metals, and construction materials. These investments reflect Oman’s commitment to strengthening its industrial base and expanding its role in global supply chains. To sustain this momentum and remain competitive, Oman is accelerating its shift towards digitalisation and smart manufacturing. By adopting advanced technologies, the country aims to enhance efficiency, improve product quality, and create new opportunities for businesses and workers. This transition is a key step in ensuring that Omani industries can keep pace with global trends and meet the evolving demands of international markets.

As part of its industrial vision, Oman is focusing on digitalisation and smart manufacturing, forging global partnerships to support this shift. One key collaboration is with the International Centre for Industrial Transformation (INCIT), which helps Omani factories adopt Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies. INCIT’s prioritisation indexes enable industries to assess their progress, identify areas for improvement, and boost global competitiveness. This partnership supports Oman’s goal of becoming a leader in industrial innovation while creating new opportunities for businesses and professionals.

During the ceremony, three key memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed. The first MoU, with the International Centre for Industrial Transformation (INCIT), aims to support factories in adopting Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies. The second MoU, with the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting, focuses on establishing an advanced automation centre. The third MoU announced a strategic partnership with the منظمة الأمم المتحدة للتنمية الصناعية (اليونيدو).

Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion introduced the Made in Oman platform’s national product identity certificate to promote local industries. The advanced automation centre was launched to enhance industrial capabilities and support Oman’s digital transformation journey.

A certified assessor qualification programme, using the Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI) methodology, was also introduced to ensure accurate and professional assessments of industrial transformation readiness. Dr. Jesmond Hong, Chief Operating Officer of INCIT, expressed enthusiasm about furthering collaboration with Oman to drive industrial transformation and foster a prosperous future for its manufacturing sector.

As Oman continues to embrace digitalisation and industrial transformation, INCIT is committed to working closely with the country to drive progress in manufacturing and technological innovation. By leveraging its expertise and globally recognised frameworks, INCIT will support Omani industries in adopting advanced technologies, enhancing competitiveness, and achieving sustainable growth. Together, INCIT and Oman will foster a thriving industrial ecosystem, positioning the nation as a leader in the global market while creating opportunities for businesses and professionals alike.
