| July 4, 2024

Tuesday, 2 July 2024, Singapore – The International Centre for Industrial Transformation (INCIT) is expanding its impact on global manufacturing transformation, with a recent completion of a five-day Certified Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI) Assessor training workshop held in Egypt. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with INCIT’s partnering training and certification body TÜV SÜD.

The IIC Initiative

To harness Industry 4.0 and transition its manufacturing industries to the next level of maturity and competitiveness, Egypt’s government is heavily investing in the telecommunications and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure of the New Administrative Capital. The first phase, “Knowledge City,” is located within this new capital and includes applied research centers, technical training facilities, software and application development hubs, and data design capabilities. Creative Innovation Hubs will also be established to support innovation and entrepreneurship, alongside Egypt’s first-ever Industry 4.0 Innovation Center (IIC) initiative.

Located within Knowledge City, the IIC is a collaborative initiative led by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), Industrial Modernization Center (IMC), and Siemens Egypt. It aims to advance Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies through capacity building, electronics design, manufacturing, and technology park development. Its goal is to support local manufacturers in adopting Industry 4.0 innovations.

SIRI comes into play

To enhance operational excellence at IIC and promote the development of Industry 4.0 clusters, the SIRI Training and Certification Programme was prioritised as the essential framework to meet this need as SIRI covers the three core elements of Industry 4.0: Process, Technology, and Organisation.

The SIRI Training and Certification Programme conducted in Egypt was attended by 15 participants primarily from ITIDA and IMC. The programme focused on imparting comprehensive methodologies, active learning techniques and how to provide strategic recommendations essential for effective assessment and evaluation. Participants also gained practical insights and tools necessary to enhance service delivery at IIC across diverse industrial sectors.

SIRI will significantly contribute to developing the capabilities and improving the efficiency of the cadres responsible for managing IIC. It will also elevate the level of services in promoting industrial innovation, designing smart factories, enhancing industrial innovation simulation, facilitating knowledge transfer, and advancing the Egyptian industrial sector.
