Reducing Carbon Emissions in Manufacturing Supply Chains: Key Takeaways from CeMAT Southeast Asia

NEWS

| June 13, 2025

At CeMAT Southeast Asia 2025, INCIT’s Platform Director Michael Tay addressed a critical issue facing the manufacturing sector: reducing carbon emissions across supply chains and logistics.

According to the World Economic Forum 2024, the manufacturing industry is responsible for nearly 30% of the world’s total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Of this, between 73% and 90% of a manufacturing company’s emissions fall within the value chain — also known as Scope 3 emissions. Within Scope 3, logistics activities such as trucking, shipping, and aviation contribute approximately 5–10%.

For companies looking to reduce their GHG emissions, it is essential to examine and address emissions arising from their supply chain and logistics operations. The question then becomes: where and how can companies effectively reduce their emissions?

COSIRI is the answer. Developed as an assessment platform, COSIRI evaluates the sustainability maturity of a company’s operations, supply chain, and logistics. This includes areas such as warehousing, intralogistics, product design, circularity, and the adoption of clean technologies.

Following the assessment, COSIRI benchmarks the company’s performance against industry leaders and provides a structured two-year transformation roadmap. This roadmap includes defined milestones and targets to support companies on their journey to achieving Net-Zero emissions.
