Swinburne and INCIT Partner to Equip Australian Manufacturers for the AI Future

NEWS

| August 1, 2025

Swinburne University of Technology has become the first Australian institution to help businesses prepare for artificial intelligence (AI) through a new partnership with the International Centre for Industrial Transformation (INCIT).

Through this collaboration, Swinburne’s Factory of the Future will deliver the Artificial Intelligence Maturity Readiness Index (AIMRI) to local businesses. AIMRI is a globally recognised tool that allows companies to assess their AI maturity, benchmark against international peers, and adopt best practices from around the world.

As part of the agreement, Swinburne will also become an approved training and certification provider for INCIT’s Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI), an assessment widely adopted across more than 30 countries to measure manufacturers’ digital maturity and readiness for Industry 4.0.

A leader in innovation and industry collaboration

Swinburne University of Technology is renowned for connecting science and technology with business and the community. At the centre of this mission is its Factory of the Future, a state-of-the-art Industry 4.0 facility established in 2015. The centre co-creates innovative solutions with industry, providing a gateway for research, innovation, education, and training. It has already helped more than 650 small and medium-sized enterprises embrace advanced digital technologies and transform their operations.

Driving AI adoption in manufacturing

Vikram Sachdeva, Director of Manufacturing Excellence and Transformation at Swinburne Factory of the Future, said the collaboration will strengthen Australian manufacturers’ ability to compete in an era of rapid technological change.

“This international partnership is poised to complement our nation-first digital transformation programme, delivering even greater value to the Australian SME manufacturing sector.”

Dr. Jesmond Hong, Chief Operating Officer at INCIT, added that the partnership brings critical tools to Australian industry at a pivotal time.

“Australia’s manufacturing sector is entering a critical phase where adopting AI and digital technologies will determine future competitiveness. Partnering with Swinburne allows us to bring globally recognised assessment tools like AIMRI and SIRI to local businesses, empowering them to benchmark, transform, and lead on the world stage.”

This initiative highlights both organisations’ commitment to supporting Australian businesses as they navigate the evolving industrial landscape shaped by AI and digitalisation.
