Sungsup Ra

Asian Development Bank

As Deputy Director-General (DDG) at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Sungsup Ra spearheads ADB-wide initiatives aimed at fostering knowledge-based innovation, facilitating collaboration, and promoting sovereign operations across all sectors.

Sungsup has over 35 years of professional experience including more than 23 years in ADB. Previously, he held key positions including Chief Sector Officer of the Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department, Director of the South Asia Human and Social Development Division, and concurrently served as Chair of the Education Sector Group.

Before his tenure at ADB, Sungsup accrued significant expertise through roles in both public and private entities, including Samsung and the Korean National Pension. He also taught at leading universities such as International Christian University, Korea University, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Sungsup is a holder of a Doctorate Degree in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, United States.
